The Department of Dutch and Afrikaans Literature and Culture seeks to teach and promote an understanding of the languages, cultures and literatures of the Netherlands, Belgium and the Republic of South Africa. The Department offers a BA programme in Dutch Studies. In the postgraduate programme, it offers a course in translation for the students of the Department of Translation Studies. In the undergraduate programme, we feature Europe's only South African Studies module for the School of English.

The department also hosts a scholarly journal Werkwinkel. A journal of Dutch and Afrikaans studies.

Departmental interest areas involve the language policy and planning in the Republic of South Africa, a literary perspective on the Committee of Truth and Reconcilliation, postcolonial representations of South Africa in Dutch and Polish literature and the history of literature in Afrikaans.

 

Zaklad Języka, Kultury i Literatury Niderlandzkiej i Afrikaans prowadzi studia nad komunikacją kulturową i literaturą niderlandzkiego obszaru językowego (Belgia i Holandia), językiem niderlandzkim (określanym zwyczajowo jako holenderski lub flamandzki) oraz kulturą i literaturą Republiki Poludniowej Afryki oraz językiem afrikaans.

Zaklad prowadzi od roku akademickiego 2007/2008 studia licencjackie na specjalności FILOLOGIA NIDERLANDZKA. W ramach studiów licencjackich na kierunku FILOLOGIA ANGIELSKA Zaklad prowadzi SPECJALIZACJĘ POLUDNIOWOAFRYKAŃSKĄ - unikalną w skali europejskiej. Na studiach magisterskich Zaklad prowadzi lektorat z języka niderlandzkiego dla studentow zajmujących się translacją.

Zaklad wydaje czasopismo naukowe Werkwinkel. A journal of Dutch and Afrikaans Studies.

Badania naukowe prowadzone w ramach Zakladu koncentrują się m.in. wokól takich tematów jak: polityka językowa w RPA, literacka perspektywa badań nad Komisją Prawdy i Pojednania w RPA, postkolonialna reprezentacja Afryki Poludniowej w literaturze niderlandzkiej i polskiej.
