Department of Linguistic Semiotics

The members of the Department of Linguistic Semiotics carry out extensive research into the following areas:

• the verbal and nonverbal means of expressing meaning and destination of communiqués, and the manifestation forms of self-identity in interpersonal linkages
• the persuasive-manipulative aspects of communication

We adopt the axiological and semiotic methods of critical discourse analysis in search of human needs, values and intentions expressed in texts and extra-textual reality.

We test Speech Act Theory, pragmatic principles and maxims, the relevance theory, theories of persuasion and rhetoric, and argumentation theory (especially the pragma-dialectical theory of argumentation) for their interactional applications.

Członkowie Zakładu Semiotyki Językoznawczej Instytutu Filologii Angielskiej prowadzą szeroko zakrojone badania w następujących kierunkach:

• werbalne i niewerbalne sposoby wyrażania znaczenia i celu komunikatów
• formy własnej tożsamości w komunikacji interpersonalnej
• perswazja i manipulacja w komunikacji interpersonalnej

Wykorzystujemy aksjologiczne i semiotyczne metody krytycznej analizy dyskursu studiując zawarte w tekście i poza tekstem sposoby wartościowania oraz komunikowania potrzeb i zamiarów.
Badamy możliwości zastosowania w analizie dyskursu teorii czynności mowy, reguł konwersacyjnych, teorii relewancji, teorii perswazji i retoryki, teorii argumentacji (ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem pragma-dialektycznej teorii argumentacji).
