Travel
By Train
Poznań is located about half way between Warsaw (280 km) and Berlin (240 km), and there are good, frequent rail connections between those two cities and Poznań.
Check your connections using the timetables of the Polish Railways (please select the main station, Poznań Główny, if requested). You can also consult the German Railways route planner.
By Air
Poznań's Ławica airport has frequent daily connections with Warsaw (LOT Polish Airlines), as well as Copenhagen (SAS), and Frankfurt/Main and Munich (LOT and Lufthansa).
Poznań is also served by low-cost carrirers. Wizzair serve London Luton, Doncaster–Sheffield, Dortmund, Stockholm Västerås, Stockholm Skavsta, Oslo Torp, Cork, Paris-Beauvais and Rome Fiumicino. Ryanair provide connections with London Stansted, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Bristol, Dublin, and Girona (Barcelona).

Getting to the city centre
-FROM POZNAŃ ŁAWICA AIRPORT-
Taxis stand right outside the entrance, should you have any problems finding one, call one of the reputable operators: MPT (tel. 061 19191) or Radio Lux Taxi (tel. 061 19662). (cost of getting to the town – around 25 zł)
Cut costs by taking one of two buses running from a bus stop just outside the entrance.
---Line 59 (Airport-Bałtyk) heads to Rondo Kaponiera

Recommended: buy a single ticket valid for 30 minutes (from kiosks at the airport) and remember to validate it on boarding.
-FROM THE MAIN TRAIN STATION (DWORZEC GŁÓWNY)-
By taxi: a line of taxis standing outside the entrance to the main train station ( cost of getting to the main square : around 10-20 zł)
By bus: Line 51 (The main train station-

Recommended: buy a single ticket valid for 15 minutes and remember to validate on boarding.

Money
The złoty (abbreviated PLN or zł) is the official currency in Poland. The approximate exchange rate (23 March 2010) is 3.9 złoties to a Euro (or 2.8 złoties to a US Dollar). The latest exchange rates for all major currencies are available here.
Business hours during the long weekend
Due to the fact that 1st and 3rd May are Polish bank holidays, during those two days business hours are to be as follows:
Trade
On 1st and 3rd May most of the shops and all of the shopping centres will be closed. Only small shops such as e.g. “Żabka” will be open.
Cinemas
Both ‘Multikino’ and ‘Cinema City’ cinemas (even those in the shopping centres) will be open during the whole long weekend.
Public transport
On 1st , 2nd and 3rd May public transport will be working according to the holiday timetable.
Chemist’s
A number of chemists’ in Poznań are open round-the-clock, so there will be no changes in their opening hours due to the bank holidays.

Post Office
The only post office open on 1st and 3rd May is located on 17 Głogowska St.
Palm House
On 1st , 2nd and 3rd May Poznań’s Palm House will be open from 9am to 5pm.
New Zoo
The New Zoo situated on Krańcowa St. will be open according to its regular schedule, from 9am to 7pm.
Museums
On 1st and 3rd May the National Museum and all its units will be open from 10am to 4 pm.
On 2nd May the museum will be open from 11am to 6pm.
On 2nd May most institutions will be working according to Sunday business hours.
Electricity
Polish sockets are standard European sockets, with a voltage of 230 V/50Hz. All visitors coming from countries using appliances/plugs that do not work with such sockets/voltages (especially American and British guests) are advised to bring adapters.
Telephones
All European mobiles will work without problems. Polish mobile phone operators use both of the two standard European GSM bands, 1800 and 900 MHz. Visitors coming from the US may need a tri-band phone.
The international code for Poland is +48; the area code for both Poznań is 61.
Weather
Polish weather is usually quite agreeable in May, with temperatures between 15 and 18 Centigrade during the day. Nights can be cooler. With worse luck, a raincoat and umbrella may find some use. Current forecast available here.
