One of the greatest advantages of co-education is that boys and girls live together from their earliest years and have an opportunity to get to know each other. The idea of the supposed superiority of one sex over the other that is often fostered in single-sex schools will not help young adults in their contacts with the other sex. It can only lead to shock and hostility. In a co-educational school, on the other hand, young pupils and students can compare themselves. They soon notice that there are some differences, but that they are not great and general. Many illusions are dispelled at school. For example, there are no differences in the academic abilities of boys and girls. Also, many girls are better athletes than boys, especially in the early stages.
