Welcome!

The Poznan Linguistic Meeting (PLM) is an annual general linguistics conference that continues the tradition of the Polish-English contrastive conferences started by Jacek Fisiak in 1970. The name "Poznań Linguistic Meeting" was adopted in 1997, when Katarzyna Dziubalska-Kołaczyk took over as the Head of the Organising Committee.

The 37th Poznań Linguistic Meeting (PLM2006) was be held on 20-23 April 2006. The Meeting was organised by the School of English, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland, in association with the Poznań College of Modern Languages. The leitmotif of this edition was: "Reaching far: Distant countries, distant disciplines".

Rector Magnificus of the Adam Mickiewicz University, Prof. Stanisław Lorenc, is the honorary patron of the Meeting.

Sessions

Martin Haspelmath gave a demo of the computer version of the World Atlas of Language Structures as well as present a talk in the Linguistic Typology session.

The Language and Medicine session included talks on virtual tutors and therapists by Lori Ramig (keynote speech: "Voice Treatment for Parkinson disease") and Ron Cole ("Poznań progress report four: Scaling up virtual tutors and therapists for global use"). Lori Ramig also conducted a separate 2.5-hour seminar for clinicians, entitled "Essential elements of LSVT/LOUD for Parkinson disease and other neurological disorders".

Special session in honour of Jacek Fisiak

There was also a special session on the occasion of the 70th birthday of Prof. Jacek Fisiak: Adam Mickiewicz University Main Auditorium, 19 April 2006. Prof. Katarzyna Dziubalska-Kołaczyk is the organiser. More information here.
